About

A Pflugerville neighbor who knows how the work gets done.

12 years as a resident. 3 years on Planning & Zoning. Now serving as your Councilmember.

Background

Jonathan Coffman was elected to the Pflugerville, Texas, City Council Place 1 in November 2025. He has lived in Pflugerville since 2013. That's 12 years of paying Pflugerville water bills, sitting in Pflugerville traffic, and watching the city grow in ways that sometimes worked for residents and sometimes didn't. The city's growth has been amazing to watch and has required large investments in infrastructure, but it's not enough.

By day, Jonathan is a technology product executive who has led cross-functional teams of designers, engineers, and analysts on multi-hundred-million-dollar programs. Before that, he worked in public media with PBS and NPR member stations, writing and producing stories that translated complex issues into plain language. Both jobs required the same core skill: understanding a complicated system well enough to explain it clearly to someone who doesn't have time to become an expert. That's what he's doing on the council.

Before Council

  • Chair, Pflugerville Planning & Zoning Commission Three years on the commission, two as Chair. Applied a consistent standard to every project: Does it improve the quality of life and advance the city's stated priorities? Kept developers accountable and meetings on time.
  • Chair, Capital Improvements Advisory Board Worked alongside city staff to prioritize major infrastructure projects and ensure the city got maximum return on every capital dollar.
  • Smart Growth Advocate Pushed for purple-pipe reclaimed-water lines in new subdivisions. Required developers to engage neighboring residents before project approval rather than after. Small changes that shift who bears the cost of growth.
  • Graduate, Pf101 & Pflugerville Citizen Police Academy Learning how city government and public safety actually operate is table stakes for anyone who wants to improve either.
  • League of Women Voters "First Vote" Volunteer Visits Pflugerville high school civics classes to register new voters and talk about local government.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine Drive Coordinator Helped coordinate the record-setting COTA drive-through vaccination clinic.

Why he ran

Pflugerville water bills are among the highest in Central Texas, and the rate structure is unfair: Too much of the cost falls on fixed fees that hit low-use households hardest, regardless of how little water they actually use. Development has been outpacing the infrastructure investment required to support it, and the gap is covered by existing homeowners. City processes could be more transparent.

Jonathan ran because he had spent three years watching these problems up close from Planning & Zoning and knew exactly what needed to change. He's now in the seat where he can push for those changes directly.

Pflugerville neighbor

Jonathan grew up in Missouri, the son of first-generation college graduates who taught him that strong communities are built when people look out for one another. He moved to Pflugerville in 2013 for the trails, the small-business community, and the welcoming spirit that still sets this city apart from its neighbors. He walks those trails with his two rescue dogs, Benny and Enzo.
